General

MINTRAC's latest Meat Worker Safety Induction webinar brought together close to 30 participants to explore how the free online resource can support foundational workplace safety learning across Australia's meat processing sector.

Held on 12 October, the Meat Worker Safety Induction – Need Help Getting Started? webinar provided participants with a walkthrough of the online learning platform, its eight modules and the flexible learning options available to workers and employers.

Led by MINTRAC's Danielle Webster, with contributions from CEO Mick Crouch, the session provided an opportunity for employers and training providers to ask questions, explore the resource and discuss practical considerations for introducing it into workplace induction activities.

Supporting Safer Workplaces Through Accessible Training

“Strengthening workplace safety requires a collaborative approach across government, industry stakeholders and the skills and training sector. Through our work with Skills Insight and sector stakeholders, MINTRAC is committed to supporting practical, accessible training solutions that respond to the needs of Australia's meat processing sector and help build a safer, more capable workforce.” Mick Crouch | CEO, MINTRAC

The Meat Worker Safety Induction has been developed to provide workers with a general introduction to workplace health and safety in meat processing environments.

The resource covers key safety topics, including workplace hazards and risks, traffic management, hygiene, work hardening, safe work policies and procedures, and workplace behaviour.

Designed as a foundational learning resource, it can complement an employer's existing workplace induction and safety training arrangements.

Flexible Learning to Support Different Workplace Needs

One of the key topics discussed during the webinar was the time required to complete the induction.

Danielle explained that an experienced participant could work through all eight modules, including videos and assessment questions, in approximately two hours.

Importantly, the training does not need to be completed in a single sitting.

Participants can start, pause and return to their learning, providing flexibility to accommodate individual learning needs and workplace schedules.

This approach allows employers to introduce foundational safety learning as part of their broader workplace induction activities, while recognising that site-specific training remains essential.

“The flexibility of this resource is one of its key strengths. Workers can complete the training at their own pace, allowing employers to use it alongside their existing workplace induction and safety training activities.” Danielle Webster | MINTRAC

Supporting Industry to Get Started

The questions and discussion during the webinar highlighted the importance of providing employers and training providers with clear, practical information about accessing and using the resource.

The session also provided an opportunity for MINTRAC to hear directly from industry about the support organisations may need when introducing online safety learning into their workplaces.

MINTRAC will continue supporting industry engagement and providing guidance to organisations interested in accessing and using the induction.
