Occupational Recognition Service (ORS)

for the South Australian Meat Industry

Project Description:
To develop the assessment processes, requirements, and tools used to deliver the Occupational Recognition Service (ORS) for the following occupations (and qualifications) as listed on the South Australian Traineeship and Apprenticeship Pathway Schedule:

  • Butcher (AMP30815 - Certificate III in Meat Processing (Retail Butcher)
  • Meat Processor (Abattoirs) (AMP20316 - Certificate II in Meat Processing (Abattoirs))
  • Meat Processor (Boning Operations) (AMP30116 - Certificate III in Meat Processing (Boning Room)
  • Meat Slicer (AMP30216 - Certificate III in Meat Processing (Food Services)
  • Quality Assurance Monitor/Officer (AMP30622 - Certificate III in Meat Processing)
  • Slaughter Floor Operator (AMP30516 - Certificate III in Meat Processing (Slaughtering))
  • Smallgoods Maker (AMP31016 - Certificate III in Meat Processing (Smallgoods - Manufacture)

Provide secretariat services for an initial intake of thirty (30) applicants to the Commission’s ORS for the occupations listed above. Secretariat services include:

  • Validate the applicant's suitability based on the information included in their application and liaise with the required parties. This may include an initial interview with the applicant.
  • Contract with a suitable location for the provision of the skills assessment and arrange the skills assessment with the applicant(s) and an appropriate member of the assessment panel or a similar person as approved by the Commission.


Key milestone dates of the project:

A report with recommendations will be provided to the Commission after the following steps: 

Step 1: The Application – document evaluation and initial interview as needed. 

Step 2: The Skills Demonstration – an examination or test, or independent competency assessment, as determined by the Commission. 

Step 3: (where necessary): Confirmation of gap training completion.
