Major Update Released for Australian Meat Processing Training Package (AMP Stage 2)
The Australian Meat Processing (AMP) Training Package has undergone a major update, with Stage 2 now formally released on training.gov.au following a comprehensive review. The project is led and managed by MINTRAC, as part of its role delivering meat industry projects under the Skills Insight Jobs and Skills Council (JSC).
This release represents a significant improvement to the AMP Training Package, introducing refreshed qualifications, expanded skill sets and a modernised unit structure designed to better reflect how meat processing work is performed today.
The Stage 2 release strengthens alignment with contemporary industry operations, workforce safety expectations, animal welfare practices and food safety requirements, while providing greater flexibility for employers and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to meet workforce needs.
Key changes include:
• Introduction of new Certificate II pathways
• Expansion of modular skill sets to support targeted, job-ready training
• An updated Certificate III in Meat Processing
• Rationalisation and replacement of legacy units
• Clearer alignment with modern processing technologies, hygiene, traceability and animal welfare standards
MINTRAC, welcomes the release and encourages employers and RTOs to review the updated package and associated transition arrangements.
“AMP Stage 2 reflects a practical shift toward training that is more responsive to real-world operations,” said Mick Crouch, CEO, MINTRAC. “It provides industry with clearer pathways, greater flexibility and training products that better match how skills are developed on the floor.”
AMP Australian Meat Processing Training Package Release 9 is available on the National Training Register. RTOs should review their scope of registration, re-endorsement requirements and transition strategies. Employers are encouraged to engage early with their training providers to understand how the changes may impact workforce development and compliance obligations.
Further information and support materials will be made available through MINTRAC to assist industry stakeholders during the transition.
