How the standards are applied in the red meat industry
The diagram below shows the red meat supply chain for non-retail trade product (carcases and cartons) and the information standards that have been developed for these activities.
It shows how the Information Standards (GS1 numbering, bar coding and electronic messaging) are applied to the meat industry supply chain. The Information Standards are developed using the GS1 system by industry representation and projects co-ordinated by the Red Meat Supply Chain Committee (RMSCC) which reports to the Australian Meat Industry Language and Standards Committee (AMILSC). - Create and print eDEC using feedlot/ on-farm cattle management software
- Automatically send eDEC to destination and copy of LPA/NLIS
- Printed eDEC travels with cattle
- eDEC message received and used to reconcile the cattle and automatically prepare kill agenda
- Tags read and automatically matched to tag data received in eDEC message.
- Batched based offal with GS1 bar coded carton products linked to live ID.
- GS1 Bar coded carcase ticket printed and attached to carcase. Linked to live ID.
- GS1 carcase ticket scanned at boning room entry, carcase load in or load out. Batch based or individual carcase traceability through boning room.
- GS1 Bar coded carton label printed and attached to carton. Linked to body number by batch or indvidual traceability.
- GS1 Bar coded carton labels scanned to create load and eMTC.
- eMTC created, printed and message sent electronically to destination. Copy message sent to AQIS.
- eMTC message, physical product and printed eMTC matched to confirm product.
