The National Sheep Health Monitoring ProgramThe National Sheep Health monitoring project in conjunction with Zoetis and the Livestock Biosecurity Network have instigated a series of producer feedback workshops. The educational programs endeavour to inform both lamb and sheep producers on strategies to improve livestock health, production and profitability by minimising the impact of diseases and conditions on carcase yield. The current market conditions of both sheep and lamb is very favourable for producers. However, as an industry, it is important that processors and producers are communicating to improve health conditions which are causing the processing industry significant costs. The MINTRAC workshops hope to further develop the program to increase awareness of grass seeds, incorporating relevant stakeholders to give appropriate advice to reduce of incidence on carcases. The workshops include a guided tour of a host abattoir and their facilities followed by a sheep health and disease seminar which will focus on how to reduce the impact of disease and conditions on producers and processor profits.
